Call to order/Welcome to New Members
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 PM and new members were welcomed.
Present were President Ed Cooke, Secretary Carroll Cameron, Treasurer John Doherty, Historian Dan Fitzgerald; Board chairman, Tom Dunn; Board members Mary Ann Fierro, Karen Dunn, Bill O'Brien, Chris Kelley, Billy Cameron, members Tom Lynch, Phil Gallagher, Joe McManus, Jim Cooney, David Russell, Bill Timmeny, and guests Judi Sherry and Joseph McCormack. Judi Sherry became a new member and Joe McCormack renewed his membership before the meeting was over.
The Pledge to the Flag was led by President Cooke.
President's Report (Ed Cooke)
President Cooke reported on the state of the Society, including strategic planning, membership task force, review of the year's calendar, and organization of files and records by members of the Board. Each Board member was issued a folder to keep records in.
Minutes from last meeting (Carroll Cameron)
The minutes of the March meeting were approved as amended.
Correspondence
A Proclamation: March as Celtic American Month was received from the Miami-Dade school board. The retired Officer's Council sent a request to members to remove Nick Valeriani from all mailing lists.
Treasurer's Report (John Doherty)
The treasurer gave detailed reports which are attached to these minutes. In addition:
Emerald Society
Reminders were sent to 78 members who have not renewed their membership. Reminder letter is attached. There is a special membership category for the sons and daughters of members who live outside of South Florida. Their parents can include them in their membership for $10/year each.
President Cooke asked the treasurer to chair the meeting for the duration of the report. Discussion was held on expenditures.
Motion: by T. Dunn to accept submitted bills but in future require that all expenditures other than regular monthly expenses be approved prior to incurring the expense. Second by Kelley. Motion passed.
Discussion on setting a budget for the Emerald Society. Dave Russell volunteered to chair budget committee. Other members to be announced.
Motion: by C. Cameron to postpone discussion on a budget until the strategic planning meeting. Second by Doherty. Motion passed.
Directive: Dave Russell to chair a budget committee.
Motion: by Kelley to roll over maturing CD for 6 months. Second by O'Brien. Motion passed.
St. Patrick's Festival Committee
Once all accounts receivable are received, the Festival lost $5,957. 91.
Concern was expressed about a large number of mistakes in the festival book.
Christmas Show\Dinner
No report as far as financing yet.
Motion: by B. Cameron for president to appoint committee to examine profit and loss statement to cover all bases. Second by O'Brien. Motion failed.
Treasurer Doherty yielded the chair back to the President.
Business of the Society

Lost membership for Arthur McDonald Sponsor is Jim Cooney
Motion by T.Dunn to install Sherry and McDonald at next membership meeting; for McDonald pending receipt of replacement application and check from McDonald. Second by Fierro. Motion passed.
B. Status of St. Patrick's Festival Exempt Status with the IRS. (Chris Kelley, Ed Cooke)
Nothing to report until after tax season.
Motion by T.Dunn to approve the expenditure so that Kelley can file the Articles of Incorporation renewal with the FL Sec. of State. Second by C. Cameron. Motion Passed.
C. Status of Scholarship Committee: Billy Cameron
No progress to report.
D. Election Report 2002 Report: Dan Fitzgerald
Dan Fitzgerald read the names of new officers and new and retained Board members as reported in the March minutes.

Emerald Banners, Flags to be stored prior at Tom Flynn's home
Motion: by B. Cameron to allocate $150 for drinks and food preceding the parade. Second by C. Cameron. Motion passed.
Motion: by O'Brien to raffle bottles of Brennan's Irish Whiskey at monthly socials and at parade for fundraiser. Second by Kelley. Motion passed

Appointments were proposed and are pending acceptance by appointees.

Motion: by O'Brien to have a formal membership drive for 90 days, beginning immediately, before printing new directory. Second by C. Cameron. Motion Passed.

Motion: by T. Dunn to call for competitive bids for large printing orders. Second by Kelley. Motion passed.
Motion: by Fitzgerald to extend meeting for 10 minutes. Died for lack of second.

Motion: by C. Cameron to choose March 15, 2003 as the date, pending whether that will conflict with John Martin's. Second by Kelley. Motion passed.
