Minutes
Call to order.
The meeting was called to order by President Tom Dunn at 6:45 P.M. Also present were First V. President, Ed Cooke, Secretary Carroll Cameron, Board Members Karen Dunn, Bill O'Brien, Michael O'Connor, John Wright, Billy Cameron, Dan Fitzgerald and John Kane
President Dunn led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Statement by the President
The power was out at the Yacht Club and the meeting had to be held by candle light.
Minutes from last meeting
Carroll Cameron distributed the January minutes which were later approved as amended.
Treasurer's Report
Carroll Cameron distributed the reports generated by the treasurer, John Doherty, who could not attend the meeting. The reports are attached to the minutes.
Emails from Doherty were read regarding the name of the society which is The Emerald Society, not The Emerald Society of South Florida.
Directive: T. Dunn to make sure our correspondence reflects the correct name of the society.
Some of the information on the web site is out of date.
Directive: J. Kane to send Doherty updates on the St. Patrick's festival and calendar for the website.
Membership Committee Report ( Billy Cameron)
Charles Hesser, sponsored by Ed Cooke and Billy Cameron was approved as a member.
Discussion on membership category for nonIrish Americans who want to support the society.
Directive: C Cameron to write a page for the festival book explaining the "Friends of Emeralds" category of membership. T. Dunn to get applications.

A. Status of St. Patrick's Festival Exempt Status with the IRS. (Chris Kelly No report)

D. Fitzgerald commended J. Kane for the work of the nominating committee and for his work writing a description of the duties of officers and committees.
Directive: J. Kane to send the description of the duties of officers and committees to J. Doherty so they can be added to the web site.
C. Irish Cultural Social at John Martin's (Ed Cooke)
1. Next event : First Sunday in March. Readings from Ulysses.

Suggestion by Cooke to try to split the social meetings with 6 in pubs and 6 in restaurants or other facilities.
Bill O'Brien was commended for his success in negotiating sites at low costs to members.

E. St. Patrick's Festival (Bill O'Brien, Ed Cooke, Billy Cameron, Mike O'Connor, Chair)
Festival Book /Chair person B. O'Brien passed out form letters that can be used to solicit adds for the Festival Book. All Emeralds will get an ad application.
Add sales/Chair person T. Dunn has bought an ad for 1/4 page in the PBA newsletter. Price was $150.00. Since the nonprofit status has been lost, advertising will increase about 3 times to around $3300 for the Miami Herald.
Motion by O'Brien to advertise in the Miami Herald's Neighbors section. Second by Fitzgerald. Passed.
Entertainment Report by Fitzgerald on the following entertainment
Peter Fuchs will accompany singers, etc. with his keyboard.

Publicity J. Kane is sending press releases to all area neighborhood papers. Tom Linehan and Lou Clarke will be dressed in their leprechaun suits. Clark will drive his vintage fire truck.
Fundraisers 400 Shamrock ties have been ordered to sell at $8:00 each. Tee shirts will be on display. Door prizes will be solicited. A 50/50 will be held
Motion by Cameron to sell John McCormick CDs for a commission. Second by Fitzgerald. Passed

1. Directives from last meeting
Deferred due to lack of light.
2. Directory (C. Cameron, E. Cooke)
It was decided to hold back the directory until after the festival to allow new members to be listed and to keep the two books separate.

New Business
1. 2002 Christmas in Killarney initial plans
Coral Gables Country Club won't be available due to scheduled renovations.
Directive: D. Fitzgerald to inquire about the Elks Clubs in S. Miami and at 103 Avenue and Sunset Drive. M. O'Connor to ask Riviera Country Club.
Health and Welfare
On Saturday, February 9, 2002, there will be a memorial mass for Msgr. Walsh in the small chapel at Mercy Hospital.
Due to the illness of Frank Nolan, Louise Nolan Battista has asked to resign from the Board.
Motion by Fitzgerald to use the fifth runner up in the upcoming election to replace Louise on the Board. Second by O'Brien.
The Board expressed its concern for the health of our good member, Frank Nolan, and wishes to send its support to his daughter.
Good of the Society
The Play "South Bronx" is to be presented at John Martin's, Sunday, February 10. Emerald members are invited to attend as guests of the producer.
Ed Cooke reminded members that the Miami Civic Chorale's Valentine's Concert will be held at the UM Ring Theater on February 17, 2002.
